Einst stand sie unter dem Schutz des nahegelegenen Schlosses Negova. Die ursprüngliche gotische Kirche ließ im Jahr 1556 Gräfin Katharina Trauttmannsdorf errichten. Die heutige Kirche wurde zwischen 1699 und 1710 erbaut, worauf die Jahreszahl 1710 am Portal hinweist. Im Jahr 1850 erhielt die Kirche zusätzlich die Kreuzkapelle, für deren Bau Material aus der ehemaligen Friedhofsmauer verwendet wurde. Das Innere der Kirche wurde im Jahr 1927 von Franc Gornik und Alojzij Mauk ausgemalt. Der Hochaltar, der der Jungfrau Maria geweiht ist, stammt aus dem Jahr 1712, die Seitenaltäre gehören dem spätbarocken Zeitraum an. Alle Altäre wurden später umgestaltet und 1888 mit Tiroler Figuren ausgestattet. Der Altar in der Kapelle stammt aus der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Die Orgel aus dem Jahr 1760 ist im barocken Stil mit Rokoko-Ornamentik gefertigt und wurde 1893 ergänzt. Das Pfarrhaus neben der Kirche Marija Geburt stammt aus dem Jahr 1763. Vor der Kirche steht auf einem barocken Sockel eine Steinstatue des Karl Borromäus, und auf dem Weg zwischen der Kirche und dem Schloss Negova befindet sich eine Steinstatue des Johannes Nepomuk aus der ersten Hälfte des 18.
