Hauzer’s Collection of Beehives

The Hauzer Homestead is reached by a forest road leading to a gentle hillside. The host, Jože Hauzer, is an excellent beekeeper who, through vivid stories, explains the process of honey production from the earliest times to modern equipment. Visitors can watch the bees at work and see six originally preserved wooden beehives with tiled roofs. The highlight of the museum are the Jurančič beehives and beekeeping tools, some of which are more than 100 years old. Of special interest is a rare collection of straw-woven hives, the first man-made beehives. The exhibition also includes various beekeeping objects, tools, and equipment.

There are other attractions on the Hauzer Homestead as well. They raise several native farm animals, including the Styrian hen (štajerka). From the field of technical heritage, visitors can see a gepelj (wooden cart for transporting manure) and a saw powered by an engine from a TAM truck.
