Dr. Vladimir Bračič Memorial Room

On the occasion of its second municipal holiday and the 90th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Vladimir Bračič, the Municipality of Cirkulane, together with the Cirkulane Cultural Society, the Society for the Revival of Borl Castle, and the Cirkulane–Zavrč Primary School, unveiled a bust of their native son and honorary citizen, Dr. Vladimir Bračič. On this occasion, the Cultural Society, in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor, also organized a symposium dedicated to his life and work.

Dr. Vladimir Bračič was born on 27 September 1919 in Cirkulane. After completing teacher training in Ljubljana, he became a professor and later principal of the Grammar School in Ptuj. He then enrolled in geography studies in Maribor, where he later earned his doctorate. During his studies, he began focusing on the geography of the Haloze region and went on to publish several books on the subject.

He was the founder of the University of Maribor and also became its first rector. He left behind a rich cultural and scientific legacy reflected in his many articles and publications, significantly contributing to the wider recognition of Haloze. With his dedication and deep love for his birthplace, he inspired other natives who, like him, had to leave their home region. One of them was Mag. Martin Prašnički, who in 2009 became the second honorary citizen of the Municipality of Cirkulane.
